Gasket Blanks

Material:

• Stainless Steel: for low to moderate pressure (typically 20-30 GPa max). Stainless steel is a relatively soft material making it easy to work with for such pressure;
• BeCu: usually selected for low temperature application where a low magnetic background and surrounding is required for the measurements. BeCu gaskets can be used in a non-hardened state (making it softer than stainless steel) or hardened. In the hardened state BeCu can sometime become brittle under constraint;
• Rhenium (Re): the premium choice for gasket material and particularly suited for work at higher pressure. Offering a very good support for the diamond anvils, it is a material used for pressure above 50 GPa. The price of these gaskets also reflects its premium properties
• Inconel: Usually good for moderate pressure and also for high temperature applications
• MP35N: is a newcomer in the choice of gasket material. Based on the known MP35N (Timken Latrobe) super alloy, the MP35N offers a very good compromise strength – relatively low magnetic background

Diameter & thickness:

• Diameter will be depending on your pressure cell. If you are using a DAC from Almax easyLab, the choice will be 5mm or 10mm in diameter (more rarely 3 or 3.5mm).
• Thickness will be depending on the material. Thicker gaskets tend to be the natural choice for low pressure work where larger sample space is sought after.
